Hi all!
I was just so excited to find this website this past week. Actually, I found it while my husband was in his first week of recovery following his Maze Procedure. My husband, Dave, is 53 and had the Full, down the middle Open heart maze procedure at Ohio State University. The doctor was none other than Dr. Cox, with the assistance of Dr. David Brown at OSU.
I cannot believe I am writing this on April 7th. And we're HOME. WOW!
My husband was released from the hospital on Tuesday, April 3, which was 4 days post op. They wanted us to stay in the Columbus area for a few days to do some follow up on Dave. We're from Michigan so we had to hang out in a hotel for a couple days ... not too much fun. Dave went in yesterday for an EKG follow up and they said we were in good shape to come on home.
I cannot believe we're home 1 week after surgery, Dave is doing pretty well. Sleep is hard for him....and his appetite isn't what it usually is...but, all in all, he's doing much better than I think we thought he'd be at this point in time. The only med's he is on at this point in time is 2 diuretics & Bayer. No more Coumadin, Norvasc, or Toprol. WOW! And...he's in Sinus Rhythm. He had a period today for about 2 minutes where he could feel out of rhythm but then it went right back in on it's own. Dr. Cox said to expect this for up to 3 months.
This Website was a Godsend to us this week. While we were holed up in the hotel room we surfed, found this site, and started browsing some of the comments concerning recovery. I think this was our first night there and David was in some pretty hefty pain....we read out here where someone had written about how the first week is pretty bad and then it gets better. well, it has...and this website has helped us become So encouraged!
:-)
Thank you all for sharing!
I'll post more on this as we continue recovering!
God Bless you all...
Love,
Sara
